The Place – UNSW Australia

‘The Place’ is a group of classrooms specifically designed to facilitate a ‘Flipped Classroom’ approach to teaching at the UNSW Australia Business School. The students prepare for the class at home through online lectures and reading, and come to the classroom to do their ‘homework’, which means putting the knowledge they have learned into practice by carrying out project work with their class groups.

Each group has a digital screen they can use to display their work and writable surfaces to use as idea board. The furniture is flexible, with some tables for seated discussions and others for standing. This facilitates and encourages student movement during the class. The room is open 24/7 so students can access the room at any time once the room is not booked for a class and the rooms have proven very popular as a study and group work space outside of scheduled classes.
